Eat at NYAJ's, support First Step

The following appeal to Arlington neighbors comes from Elaine Shea, a founder of First Step, a program in town that aids those affected by domestic violence:

NYAJ cause

I would like to encourage you to enjoy a delicious dinner at Not Your Average Joe’s on Wednesdays during October, and support First Step at the same time. First Step is a support group for women who have experienced domestic violence.

It was started in 1996 and has been meeting weekly in Arlington ever since. Hundreds of women have gained the strength they need to find their own voice and leave their abuser.

October is Domestic Violence month and Not Your Average Joe’s has adopted First Step for their “Not Your Average Cause” in which they donate 15% of your total purchase (excluding alcohol, tax and gratuity) to First Step.

Click this link: First_Step_Certificate.doc. Then print out the certificate and present it to your server. If you can’t make it there on Wednesday, or forget the certificate, NYAJ generously said it would honor the donation if you mention to your server that you are a supporter of First Step.

I am very grateful to Lauren Dexter, general manager, and Jeanette Langill, supervisor, and the staff of Not Your Average Joe’s, for their generous commitment to supporting Arlington causes, and particularly, First Step.

First Step is not your average cause, but a very special one, that is dear to my heart. I hope to see you at Not Your Average Joe’s.

This appeal was republished Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018.
