Worden backs Weber, Martyn, Hayner
Patricia Worden of Jason Street, a Precinct 8 Town Meeting member, submitted this letter expressing her endorsements.
Arlington is fortunate to have outstanding candidates for major office at this challenging time. In April, I wrote about the stellar candidates for Select Board, Michaiah Healy, and for Arlington Housing Authority, Jo Anne Preston.
Other outstanding candidates who would greatly benefit Arlington if you vote for them are Janice Weber (for town clerk), Bill Hayner and Lynette Martyn (both for School Committee).
Janice Weber: During my years as Town Meeting member and elected or appointed major town positions, I have got to know Janice — she is simply a gem. Always obliging, she resolves difficulties quickly and efficiently. As assistant town clerk, she has successfully addressed current difficulties arising from our Covid-19 election challenges by her skilled facilitation of cooperation between various involved town officials and departments. We owe her a huge debt of gratitude.
After nine years as assistant town clerk and 14 years as assistant registrar of voters, Janice has experience and knowledge to make sure Arlington’s municipal government runs efficiently and honestly. Completely prepared, she needs no training time. She has asked for several years for the office to gain the ability to accept online customer requests for licenses, certificates, etc., issued in the clerk’s office and to take electronic payments for these transactions. If elected as town clerk, she will make that happen. We need her skills and commitment now more than ever.
When I was member and then chair of the Arlington School Committee, I noticed that the most productive and exemplary School Committee members had a passionate desire to help every child become the best they can be.
That does not mean they agreed on every specific issue. They just were relentless driving forces for highest education standards, inclusion of special needs and racial equality together with complete absence of self interest and conflicts of interest. Both Bill and Lynette are terrific and determined examples of these essential attributes.
Among their many qualifications:
• Both Bill and Lynette are experienced teachers.
• Bill is a special-education advocate.
• Lynette is a founder of Arlington Public Schools autonomous Diversity and Inclusion Groups — served on superintendent’s DIG Committee.
• Bill has a law degree.
• Lynette has an MBA.
Please join me in voting for them.
