Rebuild AHS for whole community
The following letter to the editor was submitted by Gina Sonder, town resident, Arlington public schools' parent and architect. It was also sent to the building committee, town manager and superintendent:
For the record, I wish to emphasize that the decisions you make, as a body, are to be for the good of the Arlington community, as a whole.
Although feedback from current stakeholders has been sought during this process, the Arlington High School Building Committee is responsible to the townspeople of the past, present and future.
This new $300M-plus campus must be thought of as far more than a new high school project in order to justify its scope and cost. Please take this opportunity to design the new AHS project to serve the entire community 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for the rest of the 21st century.
The new AHS project is the largest and most expensive capital project undertaken by the town in over a century, and it must be viewed as a community building, a vibrant center serving all of Arlington’s present and future residents. Thank you.
