Petition aiming to make Mass. Ave. safer
UPDATED March 1: The following petition plea from Everywhere Arlington Livable Streets (EALS) was circulated by Jennifer Susse. Questions? Contact her at jennifer.susse at gmail.com. The petition ends Saturday, March 5.
The EALS petition is intended to push town officials to make Mass. Ave. safer and more accessible for everyone, no matter their transportation mode. The town must provide a mix of “quick-build” improvements – e.g., flashing beacons or median islands at unsignalized crosswalks, elimination of gaps in the bike lane network -- while continuing to focus on longer-term reconstruction projects in Arlington Center and at the Mass. Ave./Appleton intersection.
The petition includes four principles:
- Improved crosswalks,
- Continuous bike lanes,
- More reliable bus service, and
- Better parking management---intended to inform the implementation of some safety enhancements in the next 18 months, with others in 2024 and beyond.
