What do you think about plans for precinct changes?

Plans to change the number of Arlington precincts, reducing the number of Town Meeting members, are underway. Do you have constructive suggestions about that? The town wants to know. Provide feedback by Friday, Oct. 8.

Arlington map with vote

Some background: Every 10 years all communities in the Commonwealth are required to review their population numbers after the federal census results are published and submit a new precinct map for state approval.

The Select Board began reviewing this summer draft maps of the new boundaries created by the secretary of state and proposing adjustments, if necessary. The board heard feedback from the public in September.

The Select Board plan to votes to approve the final map and precinct descriptions and submits the final map by Oct. 30. This year the town clerk is suggesting reducing the precincts from 21 to 16. This plan is for precinct boundaries – not about polling locations.

 Location decisions later

Decisions about polling locations can be made anytime by the Select Board, but won't be considered until after the precinct lines are drawn.
