Revamped Arlington Reservoir holds grand reopening

climate logo The public joined members of the Arlington Park and Recreation Commission as they officially cut the ribbon on the fully renovated Arlington Reservoir at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18. The grand-reopening events for the project was held that day.

"The Arlington community supported this project through both capital and CPA funding over a multiyear period for close to $5 million," wote Joseph Connelly,director of recreation, in a May 18 email announcement.

The list of renovations is extensive: the entire mechanical system, filtration system, pump house, beach house and concession stand, beach area, playground, picnic pavilion, new sports court, parking lot, perimeter path, full ADA access, fencing, invasive species removal, boat ramp, fishing piers and bank stabilization.

Many improvements

"Every passive and active recreational element at the reservoir received some form of improvement," Connelly wrote.

Res opening

YourArlington was surprised about the speed of the completion. Asked about it, Connelly responded May 19:

"The crews are moving fast and most of the final work is simple finish work. There will be some smaller items around the perimeter path to complete gut the beach will be ready by the 18th. Crossed fingers, of course."

The Park and Recreation Commission held a number of public hearings in a project that was completed in two phases.

The project landscape architectural firm was Kyle Zick Landscape Architects.
