Kelly Lynema, a new senior planner in the town Department of Planning and Community Development, began work Oct. 9.
In that role, Lynema will participate in the instituting the town master plan by advancing the Mill Brook Corridor Study and the Historic Survey Master Plan. She will serve as a department liaison to Envision Arlington, serving on the Standing Committee and working on updates to town goals and assisting with the annual town survey.
She will also conduct research and studies into a range of topics such as land use, housing and economic development, examining alternatives and making recommendations in these topic areas. Her salary is $65,167.
Lynema comes to the town from Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp., where she assisted in putting into effect the Faneuil Hall Marketplace Master Plan and developed and implemented the annual public realm program for the marketplace.
Before that, she was employed as an urban planner for two private-sector firms, Utile and NBBJ.
Lynema received her master’s degree in urban planning from Harvard University and her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Tufts University.
She fills the position vacated by Nat Strosberg, who left in September to pursue a doctorate. He had been senior planner since August 2016 after Ted Fields had left for Natick.
The town department is committed to bettering the quality of life for Arlington's residents by improving access to housing and transportation, enhancing the vitality of business districts, providing opportunities for low- and moderate-income households, and preserving and promoting the town's natural, historic and cultural resources.
The department oversees various planning and community development activities within the town of Arlington, including implementing the master plan. Th staff supports a range of town boards and committees, including the Redevelopment Board and manages three redevelopment properties: Jefferson Cutter House, Senior Center and 23 Maple St.
