Town election results show 76.8% turnout

UPDATED, Nov. 7: The state general election was held Tuesday, Nov. 6, and town turnout was heavy, precincts reported through the day. The final, unofficial numbers show that 76.8 percent of town registered voters cast ballots.

In the Nov. 8, 2016, election, Arlington turnout was 83 percent, as 26,796 voted out of 32,291 registered voters. Of those, 76 percent voted for Clinton, and 17 percent for Trump.

Belmont voters have approved the $295 million debt exclusion to pay for a new, grade-seven-through-12 school to replace Belmont High School.

Early voting results (all at Town Hall): 

Town Clerk Stephanie Lucarelli reported that 247 voted early the first day, Oct 22.That increased to 279 Oct. 23, 305 on Oct. 24, 625 on Oct. 25 and 264 for Oct. 26, or weekly total of 1,720. On Monday, Oct. 29, 484 voted early, followed by 477 on Oct. 30 and 690 on Oct. 31, 1,307 on Nov. 1 and 7-06 on Nov. 2 -- for a 10-day total of 5,384. 

The last time early voting occurred, in 2016, a total of 3,380 in the first five days, town poll observers said.

The deadline to submit an absentee ballot application was noon Monday, Nov. 5. 

Public schools were closed for students that day, because of the professional day for teachers and staff.

The League of Women Voters of Arlington offered free rides to the polls on Nov. 6 from 9 until 3.
