Heights butcher shop faced auction

Prime, Your Trusted Butcher, the Heights shop that turned away in 2014 from a chain to an independent business, is closing, with an auction scheduled for Wednesday.

The store, known previously as The Meat House, part of a chain of stores, and situated at 1398 Mass. Ave., has posted  signs in its window and notified customers online that the store is closing. Current items are offered at 20 percent off.

The auction is scheduled for 11 a.m. Jan. 22.

The location sells various deli meats and cheeses, as well as wine and alcohol, and other small grocery items. Prime gift cards, discount certificates and store credits will be honored as long as product supplies last, a newsletter says.

The decision came after "careful consideration of the long-term financial performance of the store," according to the post. The shop is selling products at a 20 percent discount until its closure.

The renamed Prime held is grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, YourArlington archives show.

Since 2010, Peter Weissman and his team at what was The Meat House have taken great pride serving as Arlington’s local butcher. In June 2014, Weissman, et al., parted from the chain to relaunch and rebrand as Arlington’s independent local butcher and year-round grocery destination with its new name.

In support of the "localvore" movement, Prime stocks its shelves with more than 50 carefully chosen vendors. The shop will also soon unveil a series of unique food experiences -- events, tastings and free samples -- partnered with a variety of local food and beverage purveyors to bring Arlington and surrounding communities opportunities customers won’t want to miss.
