A 29-year-old Framingham woman faces two charges after she allegedly failed to pay for a cab fare and pulled a machete on the cabbie when he asked for his money.
Britany Goldberg was charged by Arlington police with assault with a dangerous weapon and fare evasion on Saturday, Nov. 13.
About 8:50 p.m. town officers were sent to the area of 1521 Mass. Ave., where a male was said to face a threat from a female with a knife. While en route, APD Dispatch described the suspect as a female wearing a knit cap and Army pants. On arrival, police spoke with the male, who said he is a taxi driver for a Cambridge company and picked up the female in the Harvard Square area, and she gave him a destination address in Lexington.
In Arlington, the woman told the cabbie to stop, and he said he told here she owed $22. He said the woman pulled out a machete, unsheathed it and pointed it at him and said she wasn't paying him anything and that he would drive her the rest of the way.
The driver said he felt threatened and jumped out of the vehicle to create distance, and at that point, the suspect got out of the vehicle, dropped the machete and ran west on Mass. Ave. toward Lexington.
APD Dispatch informed Lexington PD of the incident and a description of the suspect. Lexington officers responded to the Lexington Mass. Ave. address. An officer knocked on the door, and Britany Goldberg answered.
Conducting a show-up identification, in which police walked the suspect a well-lit area under a street light. With officers using an ID checklist, the cabbie was driven past the suspect, and he said: "That's her right there."
Informed of the positive ID, Goldberg was arrested on two charges.
Goldberg was handcuffed, but became combative and began swearing at Officers. Goldberg was transported to the station and booked.
Lack of cooperation
While in the booking area, Goldberg swore at Officers and would not cooperate with the booking process and kept lying down on the bench saying she wanted to sleep.
Goldberg was searched by an APD dispatcher and placed in female cell 1.
The machete was boxed, tagged and locked in garage storage area.
The police report says Goldberg has an active nonextraditable warrant from Ohio for assault to murder, assault and battery with dangerous weapon and possession of cocaine.
She has an extensive police record with 27 entries consisting of several violent offenses, the report says.
