Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) was the host for an event celebrating "community heroes" on Friday, Nov. 3, at the Boston Marriott Copley Place, 110 Huntington Ave., Boston. Among those to be honored that night is Arlington resident Kien Lang

This recognition of achievement is awarded to partners, collaborators and leaders who uplift underserved and underrepresented people throughout Greater Boston and who advocate for social justice and equity in all its forms, according to a press release.

Lang is among 18 people nominated throughout the ABCD neighborhood centers/programs and was nominated for the award by the Asian American Civic Association, where he volunteers in training tax preparers.

"As a longtime volunteer tax preparer with the Boston Tax Help Coalition, of which ABCD is a founding member, Kien was well prepared for his service with the AACA," Associate Director of ABCD Jamie McIver wrote in the release.

Boston native Lawrence O’Donnell, host of MSNBC’s The Last Word, and Tennessee State Rep. Justin J. Pearson of the “Tennessee Three” plan to deliver keynote addresses, while NBC 10’s Glenn Jones is scheduled to emcee the event.

According to the press release, Lang works for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Technology Services and Security.

ABCD serves more than 100,000 low-income Boston-area residents through its central offices and a decentralized network of Neighborhood Service Centers, Head Start centers, family-planning sites and foster grandparent sites. Learn more about the organization here >>
