Bennett Parsons, a 2014 Arlington High School graduate, is in his final year seeking a Harvard-New England Conservatory (NEC) dual degree.

After completing a bachelor’s degree in computer science at Harvard last spring, he is studying classical saxophone at NEC.

Although the sax is better known in jazz and pop settings than orchestral ones, a fair amount of classical literature for the sax exists, and Parsons is determined to enlarge that repertoire by creating his own transcriptions of music written for such instruments as violin, oboe and cello.

Carla DeFord, a veteran Arlington author who writes about the arts, had some questions for Parsons. Read what he has to say >>
