Opa! 2021 Greek festival held

Greek fest logoUPDATED, June 13: The Arlington Greek Festival returned for three days and nights in June 2021.

With safety measures and protocols, St. Athanasius the Great Greek Orthodox Church welcomed all back for its favorite event of the year.

In an email June 11, the town said Appleton Place between Mass. Ave. and Burton Street will be a one-way street heading up Burton street, including the closing of Acton Place. Please follow police detail instructions for the area.

This year organizers have take-out/to-go dinners for those who prefer to pick up and eat at home.

Rain or shine under the big tent near 4 Appleton St., the event was held:

Friday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.;

Saturday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and

Sunday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Food faves, Salonica Boys DJ

This Covid-safe affair will have much of the favorite foods and features of previous years -- roast lamb, beef and chicken souvlakia, pastichio, moussaka, Gyro and Greek salad plus their famous array of authentic Greek pastries, coffees and desserts, featuring the fried-dough treat loukoumathes.

DJ music provided by Salonica Boys and the locally operated internet broadcaster KefiFM.

Announcement of the festival has been well received, a June 1 news release says, with most festival fans appreciative of the Covid protocols being applied and safety considerations, including additional open-air outdoor seating, a greater focus on take-out meals. A few attractions that will be missed this year, most notably the children’s area with bouncy-houses and live music with a dance floor.

As always, everything is homemade with the help of their dedicated church volunteers who look forward to seeing everyone again.

Open for both lunch and dinner.

For more information, please visit them at ArlingtonFestival.com or contact the church office at 781-646-0705

The dates were changed to a week later from those promoted earlier on social media. The Select Board has approved the application for the event.
