$300 raised for yoga at Senior Center

A successful New Year's Day yoga event raised more than $300 to purchase props for the Arlington Senior Center's yoga program. Arlington turned out in great numbers New Year's Day to do yoga with Senior Center yoga instructor B. Freedman, listen to the sweet jazz of local group Muse Stew, and enjoy food and beverages -- all for a good cause.

The event occurred at the Arlington Center, whose director, Chip Hartranft, freely offered the space for the fundraiser. Freedman as well as Muse Stew's musicians, at left, offered their talents for free.

Freedman will use the funds to purchase yoga props for her $5 drop-in class, which meets Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30-11:45 in the air-conditioned former high school at 27 Maple St. (just behind Town Hall), and accommodates all levels, from beginners to sophisticated yogis, and all health conditions, while providing a vigorous workout through slow flow yoga as well as instruction in meditation in motion.
