2 selectmen say they do not support Tully; misunderstanding cited

Joseph TullySchool Committee candidate Joseph Tully, who said in one campaign debate that four of five Arlington selectmen back him, does not have the support of two board members, according to their own statements.

Annie LaCourt and Clarissa Rowe have told YourArlington that they do not support Tully. In a phone call April 4, Rowe said Tully had misunderstood her when they talked in early March.

Selectmen Diane Mahon appears in a photo on campaign literature with Tully, one of three seeking two seats on the School Committee in the April 4 town election.

Selectmen Jack Hurd has had a letter of support for Tully published in The Arlington Advocate. Selectmen Kevin Greeley is said to support Tully, but neither he nor Hurd have responded to an e-mail request for comment.

Tully has been asked to comment.

After YourArlington published its initial story, Rowe called to say that she spoken with Tully in an hourlong phone call April 4. She said that she had made clear to Tully in early March that she supported on Cindy Starks for School Committee, not Jeff Thielman or Tully. She said that Tully apparently misunderstood her, and that likely led to his public statement at the Famboogle debate.

"It was an honest misunderstanding," she said.
