AHS football fundraiser

After the benefit cookout on Thursday, July 21, raised $1,400 for Spy Ponder football in a heat wave, Not Your Average Joe's chipped in $200 more of its July receipts and has continued the fundraiser through August.

New coach John Dubzinski noted the added amount Aug. 1. "We were also very fortunate enough to be selected again in August for the 'Not Your Average Cause' Program.

Every Tuesday night in August, Arlington football supporters must present a certificate to the server. Not Your Average Joes will contribute 15 percent of all the orders on Tuesday nights in August to the team.

While July 21 was tough for a cookout, Dubzinski called the event, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Peirce Field, a "definite success."

About 100 parents, players, coaches and teachers attended and $1,400 was raised.

"We can't possibly thank The Meat House and Not Your Average Joe's enough," he wrote in an email July 22.

"They donated so much food -- hamburgers, hot dogs, caesar salad, pasta salad. Those two restaurants also donated restaurant gift cards for our raffle. That showed that they really care and support the Arlington community."

The team's first official football practice is set for Monday, Aug. 22, at 9 a.m. He said the coaches and players are very excited and enthusiastic about the upcoming season.

The AHS football team qualified for the "Not Your Average Cause" program at Not Your Average Joes in Arlington. Every Tuesday in July, the restaurant set aside 15 percent of all purchases made there by Arlington football supporters.
