Arlington 12-year-olds eliminated after winning 2 games in Series

Cal Ripken Series logoArlington Youth Baseball & Softball Association 12-year-old all-stars, representing New England in their first Cal Ripken Majors/60 World Serie, in Martin, Tenn., were eliminated Aug. 12 after a 8-5 loss to Bear, Del.

Arlington beat Lake County, Tenn., 3-2, on Aug. 9 and then trounced Hamburg, Ark, 10-0, the next day. The team lost to Kennewick, Wash., on Aug. 11, and South Lexington, Ky., earlier.

In the American Division, Visalia, the Pacific Southwest regionalwinner, is grouped with Bear, Del. [Middle Atlantic], Bemidji, Minn.[Midwest Plains], South Daytona, Fla. [Southeast] and host Martin,Tenn.

Other teams in the tourney include Kennewick, Wash. [Pacific Northwest]and Lexington, Ky. [Ohio Valley]. There are no international teams inthe 60-foot tournament, and only eight total teams.

The top three teamsfrom pool play advance to the single-elimination part of the tournamentAug. 12. The championship is scheduled for Aug. 14.

According to the World Series Web site, the schedule is:

  • Aug. 7: Opening ceremonies and pool play begins
  • Aug. 12-13: Single-elimination tournament games
  • Aug. 14: Finals/championship games
