Bodie's contract extended through June 2010

Kathleen BodieAs expected, the School Committee voted nearly unanimously Jan. 5 to extend the contract of interim Superintendent Kathleen Bodie for one year, to June 30, 2010.

A subcommittee is scheduled to meet Monday, Jan. 12, to discuss the terms of the extension.

Denise Burns, who chairs the subcommittee, which includes Jeff Thielman and Leba Heigham, said the ession would likely be closed.


Dec. 18: Seeking stability, panel to recommend Bodie as super through 2010


Karen Fitzgerald, School Committee secretary, reported the votes involved in extending Bodie's contract:

Member Joseph Curro moved to accept the recommendation to the full committee to defer any further steps in establishing a permanent superintendent search until after May 1, 2009. That was seconded by Thielman. The vote was 7-0.

Curro moved to offer Bodie the position of interim superintendent from July 1, 2009, through June 30, 2010. Heigham seconded. The vote was 6-0-1. Member Joseph Curran abstained.

Member Ron Spangler motioned to direct the Superintendent Search Process Subcommittee to report back to the full committee at the earliest date on compensation for Interim Superintendent, seconded by Curro. The vote was 7-0.

The Arlington School Committee superintendent search process subcommittee is set for Monday, Jan. 12, at 4 p.m. in the School Committee Room, sixth floor, Arlington High School. To date, it has been posted as a public meeting.
