| Arlington police June 13-20: Arrest warrant, assault at Germaine Lawrence |
|
The Arlington Police Department responded to a wide variety of calls for service during the week of June 13-20. A sampling of those calls appears below. • On Monday, June 14, at 2:59 p.m., police served an arrest warrant on Melvin Road. Alex McKaughan*, 22, of Melvin Road was arrested on a warrant for numerous breaking and entering and larceny charges. When officers arrived to serve the warrant, McKaughan allegedly ran out his back door and attempted to flee the officers, but complied and went into custody after he saw the department’s police K9, Dasty. Patrol Officers Ed Walsh and Brandon Wenz and K9 Officer Mike Hogan responded. • On Wednesday, June 16, at 8:14 a.m., police were called to a Mill Street apartment building for an unattended death. Several residents of the apartment building had initially reported a strong odor on the fourth floor to a maintenance supervisor. He then tracked the odor to an apartment, where he found the decedent, and called police. The medical examiners office responded and removed the body. Patrol Officers Rajat Sharda and Steve Porciello and Det. Ted DeFrancisco responded. • On Tuesday, June 17, shortly after midnight, police were called to Arlington High School after a custodian found an elderly woman confused and wandering around the school property. On arrival, an officer was unable to elicit any information from the woman. Arlington dispatch determined that the woman was reported missing out of Somerville, and a Somerville officer responded to drive her home. Patrol Officer Scott Urquhart responded. • On Friday, June 18, at 12:33 p.m., police were called to the Germaine Lawrence School for a report that a student had assaulted a staff member. The incident allegedly occurred when the student had run away from the program, and the staff member was attempting to persuade the student to return and the student punched the teacher in her face. The school agreed to take the student back and seek a criminal complaint at a later time, so officers attempted to return her to the school. However, the student, who had fled to a Mass. Ave. business, refused to cooperate and threatened to continue assaulting employees at the school if returned. As a result, police placed the 15-year-old under arrest for disorderly conduct, in addition to seeking the complaint for assault and battery. Patrol Officers John Kelley and Ed Walsh responded. • On Saturday, June 19, at 1:03 p.m., police were called to a Brooks Avenue residence on a report of a stolen bicycle. The victim told police that it was stolen from her garage overnight. The officer searched the area, but was unable to find the stolen bicycle nearby. Patrol Officer Mike Foley responded.
