| Arlington police March 1-8: Arrest, break-ins |
|
The Arlington Police Department responded to a wide variety of calls for service during the week of March 1-8. A sampling of those calls appears below. • On Wednesday, March 3, at 9:09 a.m., police took a report from a Belmont woman who claimed that her niece was receiving harassing phone calls from a Park Avenue man. Police responded with the woman to the man’s house to attempt to discuss the situation. On arrival, officers found the man making incoherent statements, and his landlord confirmed that he has been “loosing it lately†and had accused his landlord of murdering someone. Based on these statements, officers observations of the man, and other incidents involving him recently, police obtained an involuntary commitment order pursuant to Section 12, and the man was taken to Winchester hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. Patrol Officer Vitaly Volkov and Sgt. Mike Sheehan responded. • On Wednesday, March 3, at 8:13 p.m., police were called to a Marathon Street residence for a reported domestic assault and battery. Officers found both the victim and her boyfriend heavily intoxicated and questioned them separately about what had happened. The girlfriend told police that her boyfriend had hit her following an argument about his drinking problem. She then requested to go to the hospital because she was anxious, and Arlington rescue transported her to Mt. Auburn. The victim’s boyfriend nearly fell asleep while talking to officers, and his speech was slurred almost beyond comprehension, but he denied hitting his girlfriend, and told police he had consumed a “six packâ€. A neighbor of the couple told police that he had witnessed the male slapping his girlfriend, and threaten to kill someone. As a result, Guillgermo Torres*, 38, of Marathon Street in Arlington, was arrested for domestic assault and battery. Patrol Officers Brandon Wenz and Greg Flavin, and Sgt. Sean Kiernan responded. • On Sunday, March 7, at 1:29 a.m., officers performing a perimeter check at Arlington Town Hall found damage to the front doors of the building. They had not been opened, and officers searched the building and found no evidence of anyone being inside, but the handles were missing, and there was evidence that someone had attempted to pry to doors open. A custodian responded to secure the building, and police photographed the damage for investigation. Patrol officers Brian Fennelly and Brad Chella and Sgt. Ron Kerr responded. • On Sunday, March 7, at 2:34 p.m., police were called to an Indian Hill Road residence after the house was broken into. Someone entered through the back door, which may have been left unlocked, and rummaged through the house, taking jewelry, a TV, and a laptop. The incident is under investigation by Arlington Detectives. Patrol Officer Rajat Sharda and Detective James Fitzpatrick responded. *All arrested persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. |
