In Massachusetts, 37 towns and cities receive less local aid than they did in fiscal 2002, just before an economic downtown. One of those municipalities is Arlington, which gets $1.3 million less than it did then. Of those affected,17 communities are near Arlington, northwest of Boston. Arlington resident Christopher Wren has provided map he composed with Town Meeting member Gordon Jamieson: Graphic
DiMasi offers budget compromise, Globe, 2/13 | School aid helps, hurts, Globe, 2/14
Wren notes: If you happen to be red/green colorblind, please take a look at the "percent change" map and use the comment link below to report whether it makes sense to you (you need not sign your name, if you are colorblind -- anyone offering opinions about other issues should sign their full names).
Wren said he tried to add additional brightness cues to overcome the red/green problem and wants to know whether it was successful.
To map geeks: I used the MassGIS Web Services tools. The state recently started serving its map data in a way that is relatively easy to incorporate into the Google Maps API.
