Human service, teacher unions endorse Thielman |

 Jeff Thielman has received the endorsements of SEIU Local 509, the largest union of human service workers in Massachusetts, representing more than 10,000 members in both the public and private sectors. In addition, Thielman has received the endorsement of the American Federation of Teachers of Massachusetts (AFTMA), a union represents thousands of teachers, not just in Boston, but in Lawrence, Lynn, Lowell, Salem, and many of the most challenging school districts in the commonwealth.
The AFTMA recognizes Thielman's talent, leadership and commitment to public education and his work in some of the most challenging school districts in the United States, a press release from his campaign says.
In the same week, Jeff was endorsed by GREY2K USA, a nationwide effort to end dog racing and leaders in the statewide effort to end dog racing in the commonwealth.
Thielman is seeking the state representative seat held by Jim Marzilli until he became a state senator. The two-term Arlington School Committee member and nationally recognized leader in inner-city education kicked off his campaign last week and was introduced by Arlington activist Joe Curro. Curro recalled the hard work, attention to detail and commitment to his constituents that have been the hallmark of Thielman's tenure on the School Committee.
A series of well-attended community events over the past week, have given Thielman the opportunity to share his experience working with inner-city communities to build schools throughout the nation, and his efforts on behalf of Spy Pond here in the 23rd Middlesex. As he addresses supporters and others, Thielman has answered questions about pressing statewide issues, including the governor's gambling proposal, the challenges facing Arlington and Medford in the area of local aid, and the tremendous improvement in the Arlington public schools over the past years.
The longtime member of Arlington Town Meeting believes that public service is a partnership that requires any elected official to listen carefully to the concerns and needs of his constituents.
