23rd Middlesex logoA forum for 23rd Middlesex candidates for state representative co-sponsored by InsideMedford.com and the Medford High School social studies department took place last night in Medford. The event at the high school's Caron Theater, moved from the library because of expected turnout, drew about 35 people to hear five hopefuls. Among them were Sen. Jim mMrzilli as well as Medford School Committee members Ann Marie Cugno and Paulette Van der Kloot. Read about the forum here. InsideMedford's link tot the race is here.

The debate went well last night, thanks to the LWV and Vision 2020 for hosting. I think the debate went well, my honest reaction is that there were only 3 viable candidates on the stage though. O'Brian and Valeri are to be respected for running, but their tact on stage was lacking. I think they might have wonderful ideas, but as a representative you'll need to present a little more clearly what your promoting. Valeri I think would be excellent in business and in one on one discussion, but should be a little more clear on standpoints. Don't be afraid to standup for your beliefs, if your pro-life, be pro-life and be proud of it.

Worden, articulate and well practiced. I admire this man, I applaud the responses on the 'litmus' questions, the voter is better served looking forward to laws, not dwelling on past legislation.

In the same vein I also like Garballey and Thielman taking a solid stand on the direct question. Unabashedly they answered pro-choice or pro-equality. Garballey was my favorite for relating his experiences to his answers though. He doesn't pander to one group or another, he goes out there into the trenches with them and makes their issues, his issues. Garballey is a talented young man, articulate, driven and genuine. I believe he is the most solid democratic candidate up on the dias last night.

I'm sorry Mr. Theilman but I question your intent on private issues, I believe you violated privacy of two people employed in the Arlington School System...not just disclosing emails they wrote through school networks, but also in their private email account. The question of working in a coallition came up last night, you did well helping start the program in Peru, but you acted singularly in disclosing documents to the press without consent of your peers on the School Committee. These are things I need to consider when I take the democratic ballot on February 5th and vote for Sean Garballey.
