Malloy responded Jan. 7 to questions from YourArlington:
On the list of those to be considered are five names, all members of the Arlington Fire Department.
The names of the four deputy chiefs are Bob Casey, Stephen Porciello, Gary Stratton and Jefferson, now acting chief.
Malloy noted that these deputy chiefs "do not necessarily appear on the eligibility list as we had a mix of captains and deputy chiefs pariticpate in the last assessment center," the procedure by which a Civil Service list is drawn up.
Malloy declined to name the five on the list. Asked why the five names are not public
record, she wrote:
"My logic here is that the five persons that appear on the eligible list are not the finalists for the position -- only the top three that would appear on the certification would be considered the finalists. If and when we issue a certification I will be glad to give you the top three names that appear."
Asked about the the expected time frame for naming a new chief if the town manager deems the initial Civil Service list satisfactory, she wrote: "If we use the current list, it is expected that within the month the town manager will be naming a chief."
