Two or so inches of snow fell on Arlington on Dec. 3. The town cleared the
Minuteman Bikeway that day, but by Dec. 6, other spots in town remain
unshoveled. Photos of uncleared locations are expected to be added to
this site -- and yours are welcome. E-mail them with captions to Bob Sprague at

The bikeway at Brattle Street has been cleared. The lot and walk at Arlington Tire was not. Here is how each looked on Dec. 6.
Above top, the sidewalk in front of 1100 Mass. Ave. remains icy, while the neighboring business has cleared its walk.
Below, Quincy at Mass. Ave. remains doubtful for pedestrians.
Selectmen Diane Mahon reported in late afternoon Dec. 6 that police were delivering a letter to the business with notice of the bylaw involved.
By 4:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, when a thin layer of new snow was falling, the ice on the walk on front of 1100 Mass. Ave. was largely cleared, though patches remained on the corner at Quincy.
The town bylaw on snow removal for businesses says:
Section 26. Snow Removal - Businesses
*ART. 11, S.T.M. 1/25/88

in this Town, which said property is used for business purposes other than farm business, shall cause all snow and ice to be removed from such sidewalk. Such snow and ice shall be so removed by ploughing, shoveling,
scraping or otherwise so as not to damage such sidewalk, and within the
first three hours between sunrise and sunset after such snow and ice has
come upon such sidewalk. Violation of this section shall be punishable by a
fine of $50 (ART. 19, A.T.M. 4/28/2004) per day that the snow and ice are not so removed.
ART. 45, A.T.M. 5/12/97
The Board of Selectmen is authorized to promulgate rules and regulations consistent with this section relative to the ticketing procedures to be
utilized.
