After three years in business, the PTO Thrift Shop has reached a major milestone. Its latest distribution of $15,750, presented to Arlington's PTOs at a Townwide PTO meeting, brings the total money distributed to date to more than $100,000.
Since October, 2004, the seven elementary schools and the middle and high schools have each received $11,500.
This success has been made possible by tireless volunteers, many generous community members who donate merchandise, and countless loyal customers.
For the second year in a row, the PTO Thrift Shop has been named the best store in the Boston area for vintage and resale fashions in the WBZ A-List competition, an on-line contest that provides consumers the opportunity to vote for their favorite businesses in 100 categories. The shop is grateful to all those who took the time to cast a vote.
The shop is closed for a four-week break, and will reopen Saturday, July 14.
The shop will close again in mid-August, before reopening on Town Day, Saturday, Sept. 8.
Regular hours are the second Saturday of the month (12:30 to 5 p.m.) and most Wednesdays (4 to 8 p.m.) and Thursdays (9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.).
The latest donation was made at a Townwide PTO meeting June 4.
All proceeds benefit the children of Arlington's public schools. For information, call the shop at 781 483-3433 during business hours, send an e-mail to
