Inside the Ottoson News Network

'What do you want to tell the world about?'

Heard among the answers at the regular brainstorming sessions of the Ottoson News Network video production club:

  • “No recess -- it's outrageous!”
  • “Homework overload!”
  •  “The school play I was in.”
  • “The Ottoson peer mediation program – it rocks!”"
  • "The mysterious science experiments” (at the bottom of the 1,000 backpacks that slog daily through the halls of their school).
“Media literacy” is at the heart of this after-school program, which mixes students from all three grade levels at the Ottoson Middle School in Arlington. Over the past two years, members of the Ottoson News Network (ONN) have been learning about the power of media to communicate their interests and concerns, along with the fun technology that first attracts them to video production.
