About 100 people at Town Hall March 11 attended a lively communitywide discussion about what Arlingtonians can do to help end the war in Iraq. They engaged in spirited open-microphone dialogue, followed by small group discussions about specific antiwar actions they could take.
Watch for the discussion to be broadcast on Arlington cable within about a week. A brief story about this event was published in the March 12 Boston Globe. The moderator was Jim Hall of Arlington, who has run for Congress. The lead speaker was Charley Richardson of Jamaica Plain. He started Military Families Speak Out and urged those present to ask their congressmen to vote against the latest supplemental bill to fund the war. Among the open-mike speakers was Susan Shaer, director of the antiwar organization WAND and wife of Rep. Jim Marzilli, who was in the audience. You may not have been able to be there yesterday, but perhaps you are among the thousands of Arlington residents who oppose the continuing war in Iraq. And perhaps you are more ready to translate your beliefs into action, even in a small way.
