The Armenian Cultural Foundation and the Alan Hovhaness Commemorative Committee held a fundraiser piano recital on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m., at the Armenian Cultural Foundation 441 Mystic St., Arlington.
Hovhaness, a famed 20th-century classical-music composer, graduatedfrom Arlington High School in 1929.
Performing were virtuoso pianist and Hovhaness interpreter MartinBerkofsky, as well as guest performers Lawrence Sobol, clarinet; and AniHovsepian, piano. They performed works by Schubert, Liszt, Hovhaness and Beethoven.

The suggested donation was $25. Proceeds benefit the Alan Hovhaness Commemorative Monument.
On Sept. 25, Dr. Pasquale Tassone, the retired director of the fine arts program forthe Arlington public schools, presented a lecture titled "AlanHovhaness -- An Arlington Genius"at the Arlington Historical Society.
The presentation is in collaboration with the Alan Hovhaness Commemorative Committee and the historical society, which is at 7 Jason St. Tassone is a member of a committeethat aims to erect a memorial to Hovhaness at the high school.
