She has been gone for 4 years, but her legacy lives on in India
March 7 would have been Cheryl Madden's 30th birthday. A student at Stratton, Ottoson and AHS, she passed away four years ago (on March 18) quite suddenly due to what seems to be complications with muscular dystrophy.
In her high school yearbook picture, she is the one in the center shown as the football players all lifted her wheelchair up and carried her into the middle of the stands. Despite being wheelchair-bound and on oxygen, she even fulfilled a degree at the Art Institute of Boston. She is still loved and missed by all her friends and family. Her sense of humor is what was so special. I had the privilege of being her aide at the AIB and am still in touch with her mother, Kathy. I wanted to let anyone who did know her know that her guest book is still active at legacy.com. It would mean so much to Kathy if people left a message saying that they were thinking about Cheryl. This is an especially hard month for Kathy. You can use this address or just plug her name into the legacy.com Web site. Rumpa, who came second in her race. using a wheelchair that once was Cheryl Madden's, receives her honor from an Israeli special-education teacher. I also wanted to let people know that Kathy donated Cheryl's wheelchair to Rumpa, a 13-year-old girl in India. She just received an e-mail saying that Rumpa came in second in the wheelchair race. Cheryl would have loved that. Kathy has been sending care packages to Rumpa, and I thought maybe we could get something to send her in honor of Cheryl's birthday. If you have any ideas,

off-list. I can forward you a wonderful photo of Rumpa at the awards ceremony.
