Participate as East Arlington's Third Thursdays continue in Capitol Square, a series that continues Nov. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a second reception at 13Forest die "Plenty," as part of East Arlington's Third Thursdays
in Capitol Square. Or, stop by the gallery's open house during
Arlington's First Lights event on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 4
p.m.
Businesses in East Arlington's Capitol Square are giving back to the community this holiday season. A portion of sales from November's Third Thursday event, Nov. 20, 6 to 8 p.m., will be donated to Arlington schools to support art enrichment programs. Participating merchants will also collect funds for arts in the schools throughout the holiday season.
Third Thursdays in Capitol Square highlight the vibrant shopping and dining scene on the Mass. Ave. shopping blocks between the Capitol Theater and Windsor Street. Each month, select businesses present special promotions, events, and refreshments.
Among this month's offerings, Maxima Gift Center will present beaded jewelry maker Georgia Gersh's holiday collection. Sabatinos offers 10% off all menu items on Third Thursdays, and there is all day matinee pricing at the Capitol Theater.
Supporting arts in the schools is a natural fit for merchants in Capitol Square. The area has long hosted creative gift and clothing shops, such as ArtBeat The Creativity Store, ArtWear Boutique and Monroe Salt Works.
Several new retailers have joined the mix, including Barismo, an artisanal coffee roaster, Tall Tree Guild, offering heirloom quality furniture and home furnishings, and 13Forest Gallery, featuring local fine art and contemporary craft. These hip shops, coupled with such restaurants as Flora, Za and Sabatinos, have made Capitol Square a choice spot for an evening of shopping, dining and a movie.
Capitol Square merchants are also planning to help another group during the holidays. "Men's Night Out" will be the theme of the Dec. 18 Third Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m. Guys are invited to get their holiday shopping done in a relaxed fashion while enjoying refreshments. Retailers will happily create wish lists in advance for those wanting to offer their men a little gift guidance.
Each Third Thursday of the month, businesses in Capitol Square -- the Mass. Ave. shopping blocks between the Capitol Theater and Windsor Street -- offer promotions and events to highlight the area's eclectic shopping and dining scene.
