AFD patchThe Arlington Fire Department fought a three-alarm fire at 260 Broadway, an apartment building, on Wednesday, July 2.  The initial alarm was received through an automatic fire alarm. The first reponse was Engine 4, they were quickly joined by all Arlington trucks and units from surrounding cities and towns. Deputy Chief Bob Casey served as incident commander, as the fire occurred on group 4, which Deputy Casey commands.  Neighbors reported that the fire began after a lightning strike.

The Arlington Police Department closed Broadway and surrounding roads to allow the Fire Department to work at the scene. All East Arlington-based patrolmen were on the scene, under the command of Sgt. Robert Lake.

The smoke in the area was so heavy that it activated smoke detectors in nearby homes.

Chief of Department Robert Jefferson and Captain James Bailey, Public Information Officer, have been asked to comment.  This article was written based on information overheard on a scanner, and this reporter also visited the scene after the fire was extinguished.
