'08 awards night winners || 4 student speeches || Ortwein marches on

Despite the heat and humidity, graduation at Arlington High School was held at Peirce Field on Sunday, June 8. High School Principal Charles Skidmore noted that he had been a "freshman" in his new role four years ago and so, in a sense, was graduating with the current class.

Robert DiLoreto provided the welcome, noting the rivalry between the Celtics and the lakers in the current NBA Finals.

School Committee Chair Denise Burns introduced committee Vice Chairman Joseph Curran, who offered advice to graduates and a joke. He said that Nanci Ortwein, who organized this year's exercises, likely did not imagine that the 1997 grad would be speaking at any commencement.

Because of the heat, mmany bottles of water were handed out.
