Housing Authority board backs architect for Chestnut Manor project |

The Arlington Housing Authority Board met at Chestnut Manor at 54 Medford St. at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, and Peter Sz offers the following notes.
Drake Village residents spoke of faded lines in parking lots, potholes, an out-of-control woman, broken fan in kitchen, need for promised fire
evacuation drill, recycling problems, new tenant got towed (cost $100),
need for parking sign, Vial of Life program, free heavy lawn furniture
from Craigs List, request for working maintenance foreman, $100 check
fro ESL.
Menotomy Manor: need for diagram to show family relocations.
Winslow: elections June 17.
Chestnut Manor: got exit sign, crosswalk is dangerous at funeral home
(Brian Greeley will talk to selectmen).
Project updates: 40 families will be moving at Menotomy Manor as
contractors finish up renovations to first apartments (project cost is
$13M now). Elevator work is going forward at Drake, Chestnut, and
Cusack. AHA will sign off on demolition permit at Cusack.
Myrna Saltman spoke of Minuteman Senior Services program at Drake.
Board expressed interest in expanding program to all senior sites. Program has been underway for over 1 year now.
Tenant L. Vasershteyn received $2,500 scholarship from NAHRO.
Endorsed Ammondson Architects for 689 project at Chestnut Manor (new home for mentally handicapped).
Endorsed use of Harvard Mediation Program to mediate tenant vs. tenant disputes.
Endorsed 'Just A Start' program to assist youths at Menotomy Manor.
Approved $1,500 to support summer program at Thompson School (Dan Brosnan).
Selectmen and AHA Board members lobbied state reps and senators to support $500 million bond bill for public housing repairs.
March 19 and April 16 minutes approved.
Expressed need for greater collaboration with Arlington Housing Corp.
