APD logoArlington police are investigating what a witness called an armed robbery at Leader Bank, 141 Mass. Ave., about 11:15 a.m. today. Police said a teller was handed a note demanding money and saying the man had a concealed weapon. The teller handed the suspect a bundle of money.  A police press release did not include an estimate of the amount.

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic male, 6-foot-0, with a thin build, clean-shaven, wearing sunglasses, a maroon hooded sweatshirt and dark jean pants.

No injuries were reported.

The Arlington Police Department is investigating with the assistance of the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force.

Anyone with information relative to the identity of the suspect is asked to call Arlington Police at 781-643-1212.

Meanwhile, the same morning, two banks in Belmont were robbed, according to other news outlets.

At 9:45 a.m., the Leader Bank on Pleasant Street in Belmont was allegedly robbed by a roughly 6-foot 2-inch tall white man wearing a Red Sox jacket and a white hat.

Later that morning, about 11:30, a 5-foot 9-inch white male wearing a black T-shirt and jeans allegedly robbed the East Cambridge Savings Bank on Common Street in Belmont.

Arlington police said they had no information connecting the Arlington case and the others, Wickedlocal reported.

On April 12, at about 11:45 a.m. the Leader Bank at 180 Mass. Ave., in Arlington, was held up and an undetermined amount of cash was taken, media reports said.

Police accounts April 13 said this followed about a dozen bank robberies in the Arlington area that authorities believe may be linked to the same person. The suspect in those cases is a white male, likely between 30 and 40 years old and heavy set.
