Fresh from his landslide victory for state representative, Sean Garballey has withdrawn as a candidate for School Committee. That means five are vying for three seats. He will complete his term, which ends at the April 5 town election.
Town election information
In a phone message to YourArlington on March 7, Garballey announced his withdrawal and said he would complete his term. Elected in 2005, Garballey is vice chairman of the committee and chairman of the budget subcommittee. The School Committee plans to vote on the fiscal 2009 school budget March 11.
Garballey also said that plans for his swearing-in as representative for the 23rd Middlesex district (Arlington and West Medford) could occur by midweek, when the House is in full session. The office of Speaker Sal DiMasi is making arrangements to swear in the four newly elected representatives.
The five candidates for School Committee are Joseph Tully, Joseph Curro Jr., Leba Heigham, Joseph E. Curran and Judson L. Pierce. Curran is completing the unexpired term of Marty Thrope.
Susan Lovelace, the other incumbent besides Garballey, has decided not to seek reelection.
