Peter Berdovsky, the former Arlington resident who hit the headlines in early 2007 for his role in a Boston bomb scare, would like you to help him raise money so his mom can escape from Belarus. "Come Home," a benefit show for Berdovsky's mother, was held Saturday, March 8, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Good Life Bar in downtown Boston.
Globe, 3/8: Belarus asks envoy to leave
"Come celebrate this year's International Woman's Day in style and in purpose," Berdovsky wrote in a recent e-mail, referring to March 8.
Every $10 entry donation will go to the fund, established to try to help his mother escape into Poland from her harsh life in Belarus.
"While staying in the United States I have been finding out that most of my family in totalitarian Belarus have been dying one by one in mysterious circumstances. Now, only my mother is left from my close relatives.
"And the authorities have recently locked her up into a mental institution for not complying with them. She was facing an uphill legal battle to try to preserve her land and property and has made a decision to immigrate to Poland.
"It's a right choice -- as that country is much safer -- but me being a broke-ass artist doesn't help the situation at all. I decided to apply my creativity to the situation. My friends and I are holding a two-floor show at the Good Life bar."
