Preserving open space prevails

The woods off Summer Summer Street called Hill's Hill, discouraged as a possible location for a dog run, is no longer under consideration for a new fire station after the town's Parks and Recreation Commission voted unanimously not to give up the open space as an option for the Fire Department. Marvin Lewiton, a Town Meeting member who is a member of its Fire Station Committee, wrote in an e-mail: "It would appear at this point that we will be retaining Highland and Central Stations in their existing locations."

Manager reveals '09 budget proposal, says 5-year plan working PDF Print E-mail
Written by Bob Sprague
Thursday, 14 February 2008
Town Hall logoTown Manager Brian F. Sullivan presented to selectmen Feb. 11 the fiscal 2009 budget proposal, year four of Arlington’s five-year plan. “The five-year plan is working,” said Sullivan, “but not without its challenges. Arlington’s ability to raise revenue is limited, the community is built out and state aid is virtually nonexistent.  Add rising costs for healthcare, energy and operations, and it's clear Arlington has to keep a tight rein on expenses to maintain its commitment to the five-year plan.”

These are a few of the wishes expected to come before Town Meeting when it convenes in April.
