Nano's Auto Service opened its full-service repair shop Aug. 1 at 483 Summer St., formerly the location of Stander Brothers, next to the Arlington Cafe.

In charge is Nano Jabnian, who most recently repaired cars at the Citgo station along Mass. across from Mirak. Before that, he worked for a car-repair place at Fresh Pond, Cambridge.

A native of Syria, who says he has been repairing vehicles since he was 12, has been performing that work for 29 years. He came to the Boston area in 1999, he said in a brief interview.

Don't tread on me, some in Arlington SAY, and a community effort gets off ground

This is a story about moonbats -- creatures pushed into the dark side who are trying to find the light in Arlington. Do our town creatures succeed? You decide.

Moonbats are imaginary, but they are no less real. The possibility of bats living on the Earth's moon dates at least to 1835, when what may have been America's first tabloid newspaper, the New York Sun, published a story with a picture purportedly showing the creatures on our nightly satellite. The hoax sold many papers.

Senator, wife come to aid of injured teen

The trial of J. James Marzilli Jr. has been set for next April, a time when he will no longer be a state senator, according to dates agreed to today in Lowell Superior Court. At trial, Marzilli faces charges of accosting four women in Lowell on June 3, accusations that led to his declining to run for reelection. On June 5, he was admitted to McLean Hospital, where he has been treated for bipolar disorder.

Outside the courthouse, Marzilli, 50, and his wife, Susan Shaer, came to the aid of a 14-year-old boy who had been seriously injured after he had been struck by a minivan. The Lowell Sun reported that the unidentified teen was struck while riding his bicycle with a friend, who was on another bike, on Gorham near Elm Street in Lowell about 2:45 p.m.

Arlington's Stop & Shop, whose market areas had been closed since July 6, reopened Sunday, July 27, with a brighter appearance and wider aisles. When you first walk in from the Highland Avenue end of the building, you will see wider access. Spiffier signs point the way for shoppers. The customer-service desk is now called the Solution Center. Wild Child, Arlington Center’s independent retailer of functional and fashionable gear and goods for families, has announced its partnership with Generate Change, a locally based company that is "bringing the change jar into the 21st century."   By allowing consumers to simply round up their total to the nearest dollar, consumers are easily able to give to their local charities.   

Starting July 19, Wild Child staff began asking customers if they would like to round up their purchase total to make a contribution to Cradles to Crayons that focuses on providing, low-income children with basic essentials they need to be safe, warm, and ready to learn.

Wild Child is located at 397 Massachusetts Ave. in Arlington Center.

The Arlington Police Department did not make as much as it did last year through an online auction in June, but they will take it. The auction of abandoned property, using PropertyRoom.com, yielded $190.80 to the town's general fund, mostly through the sale of bicycles. Last year's auction brought in $4,000, primarily because of two drug-forfeiture cars.
