an update about the long-running Summer Street project, now expected to
be complete by Nov. 22. At the third annual public meeting sponsored by

Arlington police are investigating what a witness called an armed
robbery at Leader Bank, 141 Mass. Ave., about
11:15 a.m. today. Police said a teller was handed a note demanding money and
saying the man had a concealed weapon. The teller handed the suspect a
bundle of money.
A police press release did not include an estimate of the amount.

 Greeley playground is due for changes this summer. Stratton, a key host for displaced students as five of seven elementary
schools were renovated or rebuilt, won't be revamped anytime soon. But
while the state has changed the rules about fixing schools, Arlington
recreation is moving ahead with a major facelift for the playground at
the Turkey Hill school. The $418,000 project is to begin in June. By
September, families can expect to see:

Mahon not running Jack Hurd, an Arlington selectman since 1997, has announced he is a candidate for state Senate in the Democratic primary in September. Meanwhile, supporters of Sen. Jim Marzilli are circulating papers for his reelection, and newly reelected selectman Diane Mahon says she will not run.

Sixteen Arlington sixth- through eighth-grade students from the Arlington Enrichment Collaborative
after-school program experienced firsthand for two days what its like to be involved in issues of worldwide significance at the United Nations in New York.

Stand for Children members on tax day As millions of Bay State residents filed their taxes, about 40 Arlington residents met on Beacon Hill with 19 legislators in support of public schools. More than 150 pages of e-mails between a former Ottoson teacher and principal have been released to Your Arlington after a judge ruled they were public information. The e-mails reflect a virtual relationship that grew from joking familiarity in the fall of 2005 toward a more personal association in the spring of 2007.

Separate Democratic caucuses elected Clinton and Obama delegates April 5, but that wasn't the local news. Of interest to Arlington residents is that Sean Conroy, a 2007 Arlington High School graduate, flew here from Ireland to try to become a delegate for Barack Obama. He failed, but not for lack of enthusiasm.

Arlington resident Juliana deHaan Rice, managing attorney in the administrative law division of the state attorney general's office has been appointed to serve as town counsel, as longtime counsel John Maher is retiring. "John will be retiring May 23. She will start no later than when John leaves," Town Manager Brian Sullivan said. "I would like to have a little overlap, but that depends on finances." The new counsel's annual salary will be $112,500.
