Democrat Sean Garballey, who faces Republican John L. Worden III next month in the general election for state representative for the 23rd Middlesex district, drew the endorsement this morning of Gov. Deval Patrick at the Arlington Diner. Supporters reported the event took place despit uncertain weather -- snow changing to rain.

The town personnel director has named three finalists for Arlington
fire chief, including the current interim chief, Robert Jefferson. Caryn Cove Molloy told YourArlington that the other finalists are
Richard Weismann and Bernard Ryan. Cove wrote in an e-mail Feb. 6 that
she has received permission to certify those on an the eligibility list
created following the last round of assessing candidates.The three candidates have to sign a list that indicates whether or not they are willing to accept the position. They have until Thursday, Feb. 14, to do so.

One Arlington resident thinks we should be able to sip an alcoholic drink without eating dinner at a restaurant and then be entertained at a town venue after 10 p.m. Another envisions a new rec center with a community pool. These are a few of the wishes expected to come before Town Meeting when it convenes in April.

Deborah Sirotkin Butler of Arlington, a lawyer, was elected Feb. 5 to the 4th Middlesex State Democratic Committee, representing Arlington, Lexington, Burlington, Woburn and
Billerica. She will serve as a liaison betwen the state and town party committees. She was also elected to the Town Democratic Committee.

Former School Committee member Paul Schlichtman, now a school administrator in Lowell, was among two finalist for the position of superintendent of Berlin-Boylston schools interviewed publicly Feb. 6. "Berlin-Boylston is an excellent little district," Schlichtman told YourArlington via e-mail Feb. 7. "When I toured their buildings, I saw many great things happening, and it would be an honor to be chosen to help lead them to the next level."

Arlington police have charged a 49-year-old town resident after he allegedly licked the hand of an 18-year-old Arlington woman and fondled her near Papa Gino's. Arrested on charges of indecent assault was Joseph J. Fiorenzo of 222 Broadway.
