    Site steers toward mobile display

YourArlington has a new look -- its seventh since the site began in 2006. Its latest suit of clothes reflects what the publisher hopes is a softer, more welcoming appearance. No hard-edged Herald here. You can see the changes in the color and typefaces. As for content, an area above the main news section -- where you are reading this item -- provides more prominence to opinion than has been true in the past.I'm pleased. Whether or not you are is a matter of taste. As always, all view ...

Our freedom to err -- and the responsibility to correct

The Fourth of July celebrates our nation's Declaration of Independence. YourArlington does, too. The independence and freedom that accompanies reporting news and opinion about Arlington also has its difficult sides -- among them, the freedom to make errors. Not that an editor wants to mess up, but it happens. When it does, the public should let the editor know. You can do it directly by email sprague.bob at gmail.com. Or, as a number did on the Arlington email list July 3, you can do it ind ...

Scholarships logo

There is a scholarship for people studying for certificates or associate degrees in health- or child-care careers. Adults as well as high school seniors are encouraged to apply.

Applications are being accepted for the Nora Catherine Tosti Memorial Scholarship. They are due March 1.

Nora Tosti’s loving family and caring friends established this scholarship to honor the memory of a young woman who cared deeply about others.

At the time of her death, she was studying to become a medical assistant. She had worked for several years as a nurse’s aid caring for elderly patients and wanted to further her education to pursue a health-care career. She also loved small children and wanted to become a foster parent.

The Nora Catherine Tosti Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established to help people who, like Nora, want to pursue careers in health care or child care at the certificate or associate degree level. Although candidates for bachelor’s degrees will be considered, those pursuing certificates or associate degrees will have first preference. This scholarship is open to adults as well as new high school graduates.

The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a current or former resident of Arlington.

Interested applicants should request an application by contacting the Guidance Office at Minuteman Regional High School, 758 Marrett Road in Lexington, Mass. 02421, or by calling 781-861-6500 x289.

The Nora Catherine Tosti Memorial Scholarship will be awarded without regard to race, gender, nationality, religion, disability or sexual orientation.
