"What doesn't come across in the superintendent's budget," she said, "is that Arlington is dealing with a new evaluation system, new curriculum standards, higher enrollment. Why don't we see massive innovation?" The changing landscape brought about by state mandates is why. She said she continues to run into residents who think the schools have 4,200 students. "We have 5,200," she emphasized. Student enrollment has increased in Arlington by 1,000 since 2000. Paul Schlichtman added some cru ...

They further realize traffic congestion will become even worse, because our population is growing and the town is also undertaking an aggressive long-range effort to attract many tourists to Arlington. Selectmen, however, have maintained that traffic congestion will decrease, which would make this corridor the only major ro ...
But today, Vision 2020 is facing some big questions, the biggest of which is, "What's our purpose now?" Just go to the website, arlington2020.org, and one of the first things you see is this statement, "Most of the material here, except for the Reservoir and Fiscal subsites, is a couple of years out of date." Hmmm. Not very visionary, I guess. I'm not bla ...

Since then, we have added three classrooms and our enrollment has doubled. Our little school has grown to serve 207 students, and more than half of the children who are in attendance today were not enrolled last Oct. 1. Because of the transient nature of the population, the school has a significant number of homeless ...
