Rick Riordan, acclaimed author of The Percy Jackson series, the Kane Chronicles series, the Heroes of Olympus series and two of The 39 Clues books, came come to the Ottoson Middle School on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m.
This was a public event, but Arlington families had to purchase a copy of Riordan’s new book, House of Hades, to attend.
Fifty student entries Riordan art contest were given to Barnes & Noble, Burlington, Oct. 7. Principal Tim Ruggere said all will be on display for three days beginning Tuesday, Oct. 8. Stop by the store and vote for your favorite, he urged.
If you purchase a book, a magazine or a CD between Oct. 5 and 7, let the cashier know that you are a parent or student from the Ottoson Middle School. A percentage of the sales will benefit the library-media center.
The deadline to preorder a copy of the book be able to attend was 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24. If you missed that deadline, you must buy it a Barnes & Noble, Burlington, to attend.
The preorder admits one adult and one student or one student and one friend (middle or high School students). The only exception to that rule is for families with multiple children in the Arlington public schools. These families need to buy only one copy of the book and indicate on the form how many people will be attending the event.
The event will last about one hour in the Wood Gym. The show will be filmed in simulcast and shown in the cafeteria, because of the expected overflow of attendees.
The author will show a 45-minute presentation and then answer questions from the audience.
The books are first editions and will be signed by the author but not personalized.
Between Oct. 1 and 4, Ottoson families received colored wristband in an envelope given by a student’s homeroom teacher. To be admitted to the event, they must be shown.
Elementary school parents who don’t have children in the Ottoson, high school students or Robbins and Fox library patrons will have to come to the Ottoson Media Center to get their colored wristbands, one the same dates.
On the day of the presentation attendees will have to show their wristbands and will be seated by the color. The doors of the Wood Gym will open around 5:30 p.m.
