Arlington High School students will appear on "High School Quiz Show" at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 29, on WGBH Channel 2, to face students from Dartmouth High School.
More than 95 teams took a qualifying test to be on the show this year. Arlington was one of the top 16 teams to earn a spot.
Thanks to the volunteer leadership of Latin teacher Ed Foley, this new Arlington High School team has grown over the past two years.
In the 2012-2013 school year, the team competed in four quiz bowl tournaments:
• 2012 MIT Fall Tournament
• 2013 Connecticut Invitational IV at UConn
• 2013 MIT Spring Beaver Tournament
• 2013 MA Quiz Bowl State Championships at Harvard
At the MIT Beaver Tournament, the team made the championship bracket against an experienced field of teams from across the Northeast. At the Quiz Bowl State Championships, Arlington qualified for PACE quiz bowl nationals, but the team was unable to attend.
The 2013-2014 team retained the full roster, and recruited five additional underclassmen members who practice with the team.
This year, the team competed in four quiz bowl tournaments, with plans to compete in two more:
o 2013 MIT Fall Tournament
o 2013 Harvard Fall Tournament
o 2013 Central MA Tournament at AMSA
o 2014 MA Quiz Bowl Eastern Regionals at Harvard
o 2014 MA Quiz Bowl State Championships at MIT
